MENTORING
District 124 Mentoring Plan
- New Freemasons are allocated a Masonic Mentor by the Lodge Education Officer during the pre-entry interview process. The Masonic mentor or Masonic Friend broadens the understanding of the new Freemason and encourages his involvement in Freemasonry;
- The Lodge Education Officer supports Masonic Mentors and tracks the Masonic Formation of each member of the Lodge. The Lodge Education Officer provides feedback to the District Education Committee;
- The District Education Officer provides tailored source materials to Lodge Education Officers and assists in supporting Lodge Mentors and those interested in Masonic Education. The District Education Officer then provides feedback to the DIstrict Grand Inspector of Workings and the Regional Education Officer.
- The Board of Training and Development, and the Board of Masonic Studies supports Districts by collecting, sharing and developing good practice and resources through the Regional Education Officer.
LODGE MENTORS SEMINAR
This seminar will assist and train brethren, who are eligible to offer their services, as Lodge Mentors.
Lodge Mentoring is a most important and rewarding position within your Masonic Formation, for it was developed to assist our newly made Masons to engage in Freemasonry and to assist them in preparing of their personal Masonic Formation.
We are seeking experienced masons who are willing to provide help for our new Masons “getting started”.
The course is designed to equip those appointed as Mentors to effectively communicate with their participants in delivering the Mentoring Program. It includes an introduction to the Program itself, guidance in effective communication and monitoring progress.
On completion of the Mentor Training Course attendees should be able to:
- Relate to others the content of the Mentors Manual;
- Institute procedures in the Lodge that will ensure Lodge officers and candidates are assigned mentors as suggested in the Mentors Manual;
- Relate to others the role of a Lodge Mentor;
- Develop personal qualities that will ensure the success of the Mentoring Program;
- Understand and meet the needs of Lodge candidates;
- Have understanding of the history of Freemasonry;
- Discuss with applicants the tenets of Freemasonry;
- Relate to others the responsibilities of Grand Lodge;
- Relate and demonstrate the ceremonial procedures of the lodge;
- Debrief the candidate after each degree.
